There are times when you start to feel like things are getting better, but then something triggers the trauma again, and you’re right back where you started.

OUR TAMPA EMDR THERAPY AND TRAUMA COUNSELING PROCESS
Our sessions are 50-minutes long and we typically start with weekly therapy sessions. There is no set duration for trauma counseling and the number of sessions is based solely on the client’s needs. Our counselors use a variety of counseling approaches including EMDR, CBT, DBT, ERP and more, and if you have a preference you can request a counselor that is trained in your preferred modality.
HERE’S WHAT TO EXPECT:
WEEK ONE: INITIAL SESSION
During this initial session, we discuss our policies, what to expect from counseling, informed consent, and more. We work to gain information about you as a person, what brought you in, and your history. We start to get to know you, and work to establish counseling goals, make any referrals if needed, and make recommendations that are customized to your needs.
WEEKS TWO AND BEYOND: TAMPA EMDR THERAPY AND TRAUMA COUNSELING
We begin setting up EMDR therapy or other forms of trauma counseling approaches to help with your specific situation. With the EMDR therapy model, we use eye movements to engage both sides of your brain (the logical and emotional sides) to help you process distressing memories and beliefs. We will be doing the work of processing the trauma, and working to reduce symptoms while increasing healthy and helpful skills for coping and interacting with others.
TERMINATION: 1-2 FINAL SESSIONS
In our final sessions, we review the hard work you’ve done and review. Your goals to make sure you’ve accomplished what you desired to. We also make any recommendations for ways you can support yourself outside of therapy.
** If you find yourself wanting t to approach your trauma slowly, we have training in multiple trauma-related interventions and can help you in whatever way feels best and most comfortable. We’ll set up a plan that’s tailored to you. Please note, our therapist that is trained in EMDR therapy is Mikela Hallmark.
